ISL has offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma as its final two year programme of education since 1976. Its combination of academic rigour and internationalism makes it the ideal curriculum for our school.

The IB Diploma course is suitable for motivated students who wish to study a broad range of subjects but who also wish to specialise in three of the six subjects taken.

Unlike some other schools we do not restrict entry to the Diploma to only the most academically able since we believe that the Diploma course benefits students of differing abilities. Students are advised on the best fit of choices in the light of previous performance and assessed potential. We believe our results over the years have shown that we can provide the level of individual attention and support to enable a wide range of students to benefit from the programme.

Advice on choosing subjects and levels for the Diploma is offered by the IB Diploma Coordinator. External, independent advice is also available from the local careers service. Where we feel that the Diploma is not a suitable programme for an individual student we will advise a student to take individual certificates or an alternative educational programme. Central to this advice is the best interest of the student.

We may make a provisional offer of a programme which we will review after a set time. This is made clear to students and parents in the offer letter.

The Diploma opens many routes to higher education around the world and students from ISL have obtained places at some of the most prestigious universities in the world. We are, however, most proud of our students’ achievements in gaining places appropriate to their talents and abilities.
