ISL Staff

  Achten, Lief

Lief teaches PYP and MYP Dutch as well as Media Studies. This is her tenth year at ISL and she has also taught in Belgium and other schools in England. She is a graduate from the Ecole Normale in Antwerp and has a degree to teach Dutch as a foreign language from the University of Antwerp. She is also qualified to teach English, French, philosophy and drama and is a part time lecturer at UCL.

  Aguilar, Ivone

Ivone teaches MYP Mother Tongue and Language B Spanish and is in her fourth year at ISL. She has a BA in English from the University of Barcelona and an MA in TEFL from the Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona. She has also completed a training course in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at the International House, Barcelona.

  Al-Benna, Sarah

Sarah joins ISL this year to teach Science and Maths at MYP level and Chemistry at Diploma level. She has a degree in Chemistry from the University College of London and a PhD in inorganic chemistry from the University of Leeds. She also has a PGCE from Kings College London. Sarah has previously taught in the state sector in Reading and Chester. She now works part time at ISL and part time looking after her three little girls.

  Ali Khan, BoBo

BoBo joins ISL this year to teach English and Drama at MYP and Diploma Level. She has degrees in English Literature and Law, a Masters in Drama in Education from Warwick University and a PGCE in English and Drama from Cambridge University. She has previously worked as an Environmental Lawyer, in Development, with National Radio and as a Teacher in the U.A.E., China, Pakistan and England. She now most enjoys devising and storytelling workshops in Drama.

  Asiko, Christine

Christine is the ISL learning support teacher. She has a Bachelor of Education degree in Linguistics and Literature from the University of Nairobi and OCR diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties from the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre. She is also a member of the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS). Christine has taught for over 10 years both in Kenya and the United Kingdom. She also works for The Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre.

  Bailey, Maria

Maria is the Head of Language B and teaches English as a Second Language, as well as PYP and MYP Finnish. This is Maria's fifth year at ISL. She has a MA in Modern Languages from University of Jyvaskyla (Finland) and has previously taught in France, USA, Northern Ireland and England.

  Beatson, Clare

Clare is the Year 1 Class Teacher. She has a BEd from Dunedin College of Education in New Zealand. Clare has taught in New Zealand and within the UK. She has over 5 years teaching experience working as a Class Teacher and as a Speech and Language Teacher. This is Clare’s first year at ISL.

  Blanco-Duran, Maria

Maria teaches MYP Mother Tongue and Language B Spanish and is in her first year at ISL. She has a BA in English from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a BA in Spanish from the same university. She has also completed her PGCE at Edge Hill College (Lancaster University).

  Campi, Silvia

Silvia has been teaching Italian Mother Tongue for the IB PYP programme since 2005. She has a degree in Sociology and a degree in Graphology, both from the University of Urbino. She is qualified to teach in Italian State Primary Schools where she taught for more than twenty years.

  Chang, Jessica

Jessica Chang MA (Music Education – University of London) is the PYP/MYP Music Teacher. Jessica has been with ISL since 2004, is an accomplished instrumental teacher, and has experience teaching Piano, Vocals, Cello, Chinese Harp and Double Bass.

  Chibani, Radia

Radia teaches MYP Biology and Science. She has a teaching Licence (BSc) in Biology from ENS (University of Algiers), an MSc in Plant Biotechnology from Sussex University and a PhD in Plant Biotechnology from The University of Manchester (UMIST). Radia previously taught in Algeria and London. This is Radia’s first year in the school.

  Clark, Chantal

Chantal has been teaching French at ISL for ten years. She has an MA from the Sorbonne. Chantal has previously taught at Thames Valley University, been a translator/ interpreter and was operations manager for the Venice Simplon Orient Express for 5 years.

  Cooper, Antonia

Antonia teaches MYP and IB Diploma Dutch. She has a BA (Hons) in Dutch, an MA in applied linguistics and is finishing a PhD on Curriculum design based on workplace language needs analysis in Hong Kong. Antonia has been at ISL for ten years and has previously taught at Westminster University, teaching conference interpretation, DFL in a variety of business settings and worked as a research fellow in Hong Kong.

  Crossley, Martha

Martha teaches English and Drama. She has a BEd (Hons) from Cambridge University and an MPhil from Birmingham University. Martha is in her second year at ISL and she has previously taught in a number of schools and colleges in the UK.

  Danby, Tim

Tim is the MYP and Diploma Art teacher. He has a BA Fine Art (Newcastle) and an Art Teacher Certificate (Goldsmiths College) and has taught at ISL for twelve years. Tim is also involved with the Yearbook and stage design for ISL shows. When he has some spare time, he is a practising painter.

  Davies, Huw

Huw is Deputy Head (Guidance) and IB Diploma Coordinator. He is in his 25th year at ISL and teaches History and International Politics. Huw has an MA from Oxford University and a PGCE from University College, Worcester.

  Devlin, Sybille

Sybille has taught PYP, MYP and Diploma German at ISL for fourteen years. She has a BA (Hons) in German with French, an MA in German Studies and a Cert. Education (PC). Sybille is also an Assistant Examiner for German GCSE with Edexcel and for the IB. She also teaches part time at Hammersmith and Fulham C.L.L.S.

  Duggan, Chris

Chris is the Head of Humanities and teaches MYP and IB Diploma History and Theory of Knowledge. This is Chris' fifth year at ISL. He has a BA History and BEd History and English from the University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba (Canada). Chris has previously taught in Canada, Lesotho, Germany, India, Lebanon and the U.K.
