MYP EVALUATION TEAM GIVE ISL THUMBS-UP
As a condition if ISL's 'IB World School' status, the school's MYP was inspected for the first time since the visit by which ISL was authorised to offer the programme in 2003.
Preparation for the inspection is exhaustive - and almost exhausting! The process began a year before the actual visit, when the MYP coordinator and School Management Team convened staff working groups, as well as parent and student bodies to complete a self-evaluation questionnaire. This is 'evidenced' by examples from the school's day-to-day practice, and the resulting documentation sent to the three IBO visitnig team members.
The IBO visiting team spent three days meeting teachers, parents and students, observing classrooms and inspecting the facilities. When the final report came from the IBO, we were delighted that the team found no pressing matters to be addressed in the programme - something they assured us was quite unusual for a school at our stage.
ISL was commended - amongst other things - for its support of mother tongue languages, its holistic / all-round approach to education, and for the innovative approaches to interdisciplinary teaching in evidence in the school, particularly through our focus week themes and exhibitons.
We will continue to aim to provide a stimulating and challenging MYP that is driven by student enquiry and validated by the IBO's international standards.
